Gerhard von Kügelgen (1772–1820) and his son Wilhelm (1802–1867) were prominent German painters. The former portrayed Goethe and Schiller {see, respectively, planets  (3047) and  (3079)}. The latter wrote the famous memoirs Jugenderinnerungen eines alten Mannes, a witty report on the civil and courtly life of the early nineteenth century. (M 41031) _ _.
