Avgustin Avgustinovich Betankur (1758-1824) was a civil engineer who built a gun foundry in Kazan, many bridges and several remarkable buildings, in particular a riding-house in Moscow. In 1810 he founded and headed the institute of communications engineers in St. Petersburg.
