Named for a hetaera of the 4th century B.C. celebrated for her beauty. She was the model for several statues including the Cnidian Aphrodite of Praxiteles {see planet  (5983)} and also, it is said, for the Aphrodite Anadyomene of Apelles. (H 118) _ _.
