Jan Valerián Jirsík (1798-1883) was as Czech theologian, priest, writer and national revivalist. He served as Bishop of the Ceské Budejovice diocese from 1851 to his death. He was a keen supporter of the Czech educational system in South Bohemia and the founder of the Institute for deaf-mute persons.
