Named for the Greek goddess of love and beauty, daughter of Zeus and Dione {see planets  (5731) and  (106)} in the Iliad but in later poems it is said that she sprung from the foam of the sea near Cyprus. According to later poems she was the mother of Eros {see planet  (433)}. (H 126) _ _.
