Su Shi (1037-1101), also known by his literary name Dongpo (“Eastern Slope”), was a giant among writers and calligraphers, composing about 4000 poems, 340 cis (rhymed verses) and countless prose. His most famous piece, Ming-yue-ji-shi-you (“When we shall have a shining moon”), is still very popular in modern China.
