Founded in 1010, Yaroslavl' was the capital of an independent principality, incorporated into the Moscow principality in 1463. During the Polish occupation of Moscow in 1612 it was Russia's de facto capital. The historical center of Yaroslavl' has been included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.
