Slovak geophysicist Gustáv Siráň (1934–2000) was a professor at Comenius University, Bratislava. From 1981 to 1989 he was head of the department of astronomy, geophysics and meteorology, and during this time the Astronomical and Geophysical Observatory in Modra {see planet  (11118)} was built.
