Wilhelm Tell, legendary hero of the well-known Swiss saga, distinguished himself in the fight for independence of the Inner Swiss against the Habsburg landvogt Gessler in the fourteenth century. Variously, this myth was treated in literature, e.g., by Schiller {see planet  (3079)} in 1804. It still influences the Swiss national consciousness. (M 41573) _ _.
