Arthur Cayley (1821–1895) started out as a practicing lawyer but in 1863 became a professor of mathematics at Cambridge. He published papers on many topics in algebra and geometry and was the founder, together with Sylvester {see planet  (13658)}, of the theory of algebraic invariants. (M 41574) _ _.
