Named in memory of Cuno Hoffmeister (1892–1968), founder and later director of the Sonneberg {see planet  (1039)} Observatory. Best known as a prolific discoverer and observer of variable stars, he also did extensive work on meteors and discovered a comet and several minor planets. (M 3933) _ _.
