Herbert Mang (b. 1942) is professor of material sciences at the Vienna University of Technology. He is a well-known expert in computational mechanics and a friend of astronomy. Mang currently serves as president of the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna. The name was suggested by the first discoverer.
