Otokar Březina, born Václav Jebavý (1868-1929), was a Czech lyric poet and one of the leaders of the symbolist movement. A self-absorbed tone in his first book, Tajemné dálky (“Mysterious Distances”), gave way to a hopeful outlook and an interest in nature in his last volume of verse, Ruce (“Hands”).
