Kaohsiung, Taiwan's second-largest city, is located in southwestern Taiwan and faces the Taiwan Strait on the west. Kaohsiung is well known as a center for manufacturing, refining and heavy industries. The city will host the 2009 World Games. The name was suggested by the first discoverer.
