Named for Pehr Kalm (1716–1779), a Finnish naturalist, and from 1747 the first professor of economics at the old Academia Aboensis. His numerous explorations took him as far as North America. He also founded a botanical garden for the Academia and wrote the pioneering work Flora Fennica. (M 7945) _ _.
