Hermann Günther Grassmann (1809–1877) was a German scholar with wide interests, including Sanskrit, phonetics and theology. He was also a very inventive mathematician. His researches in noncommutative algebraic systems foreshadowed the development of the vector calculus and n-dimensional spaces. (M 43194) _ _.
