Named in honor of Richard S{cott} and Gladys T{almage} Perkin, long-time friends and supporters of astronomical research, particularly at the Harvard College Observatory. Richard Perkin (1906–1969) was a founder of the Perkin-Elmer Corporation, the company that has been responsible for the construction of a number of advanced astronomical instruments, including the Space Telescope. Gladys Perkin {1907–2000} served for over a decade as a member of the Committee to Visit the Harvard University Department of Astronomy. (M 6955) _ _.
