Named in honor of Vincenzo Zappalà, astronomer at the Pino Torinese Observatory. Zappalà’s work on minor-planet brightness variation has provided a wealth of data on rotation and shape for the brighter main-belt objects. He has also studied collisional evolution and has been active in a program of minor-planet astrometry. (M 8405) _ _.
