Named for the spirit of night-time and the moon in the mythology of the Melanesians of the New Hebrides Islands. Ul was the rival of Tortali {see planet  (2687)}, spirit of daytime and the sun. The Melanesians recognize no gods. The name is shared by a god character in a best-selling fantasy series by David Eddings. (M 27329) _ _.
