Gediminas (1275-1341) was Grand Duke of Lithuania from 1315 until his death. He is regarded as the strongest contemporary ruler in eastern Europe and a founder of Vilnius, the modern capital of Lithuania. Gediminas started the Gediminian dynasty, which ruled the Grand Duchy of Lithuania until 1572.
