Medellín is the second largest city in Colombia. It is a financial, commercial and industrial center. The first poblado (settlement) on the site was founded in 1616, and the Villa de Medellín (“village of Medellín”) was founded in 1675. Medellín was selected as a “world city” in 2010 and as “the most innovative city” in 2013.
