Named for a city in Hokkaido {see planet  (3720)} that has been since 1983 a “friendship city” of the discoverer’s own city of Kochi {see planet  (2396)}. Several amateur astronomers there have been conducting an active program of astrometric observations of minor planets and comets. (M 13482) _ _.
