Named in honor of Jiro Hoshino, an amateur astronomer who has ground more than seven hundred telescope mirrors, one of which is in the telescope with which this minor planet was found. Formerly a public officer in Fukuoka prefecture, he is author of How to make a reflecting telescope and Album of astrophotography. (M 14971) _ _.
