Konstanz is a city situated on the Bodensee lake and the Rhine river in south-west Germany, near the Swiss border. Originally a Roman settlement, Konstanz became a prosperous and spiritual center during the Middle Ages. From 1414 to 1418 the Council of Constance was held there to end the Papal Schism.
