Named in memory of Eugene “Gene” W. Roddenberry (1921–1991), creator and producer of the television series “Star Trek”, “Star Trek: The Next Generation”, and six Star Trek motion pictures. Roddenberry explored the human condition through the medium of science fiction, often circumventing television network censors to expound on controversial social and political topics. His unique vision of a positive future for a united humanity inspired a variety of devoted fans.
