Named after the Egyptian pharaoh Amenemhět III (1844–1797 B.C.), son of Sesostris III {see planet  (4414)}. He regulated the oasis Fajum which became rich agricultural land. There he built an immense temple which Herodotus {see planet  (3092)} later visited and called a ‘labyrinth’. (M 22505) _ _.
