Named after Hans Thoma (1839–1924), German painter of mostly peaceful scenes depicting people in harmony with nature. He also painted many portraits. After a visit to Paris he was influenced by Courbet. Thoma worked in Munich, Frankfurt and Karlsruhe, where he was director of the art academy and the art museum. (M 22510) _ _.
