Named in memory of the Swedish physicochemist Svante August Arrhenius (1859–1927). A professor in Stockholm, he received the Nobel Prize for chemistry in 1903. He was the first to explain, in 1900, the formation of the tails of comets as a result of radiation pressure. (M 25977) _ _.
