Heinrich Wänke (b. 1928), director emeritus of the Max-Planck-Institut für Chemie at Mainz, is a premier cosmochemist who first developed the ⁴⁰Argon-³⁹Argon method of dating meteoritic and lunar materials. He also has investigated the chemical composition and accretion history of the terrestrial planets.
