As an amateur astronomer, Jiro Kondo (b. 1951) went to Siberia to observe the Draconid meteor shower in 1972. A professional Egyptologist since 1976, he has excavated a number of archaeological sites. He also studies the history of ancient Egyptian astronomy. He is a professor at Waseda University.
