Named in memory of August Seydler (1849–1891), professor of astronomy and theoretical physics at Charles University in Prague. He founded the Astronomical Institute of the Czech part of Charles University in 1886. Several of his works deal with celestial mechanics and orbit computations for minor planets and comets.
