Composer and critic Hector Berlioz (1803-1869) is known largely for his dramatic Symphonie fantastique and great Requiem. He is regarded as the founder of the Program music. His paper Traité d´instrumentation et d´orchestration modernes served as a leading handbook for later tonalists.
