Named in honor of Masami Okyudo (b. 1961), Japanese astronomer and currently director of the Misato Observatory, Wakayama Prefecture. Since 1995, he has been a pioneer in astronomical education over the Internet, using remotely controlled telescopes to broadcast live images of celestial objects through cyberspace. Name proposed by the discoverers following a suggestion by Y. Yamada.
