Named in memory of Federico Cesi (1585–1630), a scientist and humanist of the Italian Renaissance who devoted his life and property to the Academy of the Lincei, which he founded at the age of eighteen and of which Galileo {see planet  (697)} was a member. He published numerous works about nature, including Galileo’s “History and evidence about sunspots’ and tables of classification for the animal, vegetable and mineral kingdoms. (M 33388) _ _.
