Named in memory of Francesco Bertelli (1794–1844), Italian astronomer at the observatory of Bologna and successor to P. Caturegli (1786–1833) as professor of astronomy at the University of Bologna. Only the first volume of his book, Elementi di Meccanica Celeste, was published at Bologna
(1841) before his untimely death. He collaborated in the calculation of the Effemeridi, the annual publication initiated in 1715 by E. Manfredi (1674–1739) and that ceased with Bertelli’s death in 1844. (M 33790) _ _.
