Master (in German, Meister) Eckhart (1260?-1327/28), born in Thuringia, is the greatest German mystic. His philosophy is unique, although it combines Greek, Neoplatonic, Arabic and Scholastic elements. Because part of his theological writings are in German, he influenced German language and terminology.
