Named in honor of Marc Scherer (1944– ), a well-known scientist at The Belgian Institute for Space Aeronomy in Uccle. His main interest is the development of kinetic models for polar and solar winds, using the kinetic theory of gases. This naming also honors his sisters Elisabeth and Trixie Scherer, in sweet remembrance of a time at the Atheneum of Kapellen in Antwerp. (M 34630) _ _.
