Hartmut Jahreiß (1942– ) is a staff astronomer at the Astronomisches Rechen-Institut. As a successor of W. Gliese {see planet  (1823)}, he contributed much to our knowledge of the nearby stars. He also played a leading role in the construction of the HIPPARCOS Input Catalogue, as well as the FK5 and FK6. (M 42670) _ _.
