ISO, the Infrared Space Observatory, was launched on 1995 Nov. 17 to study the universe over a broad range of wavelengths. Among its many discoveries are water vapor on Saturn’s moon Titan, infrared galaxies at immense distances, young stars in the Orion Association and the nature of the surface of major and minor planets.
