Named in honor of Hugo Fechtig (1929– ), director at the Max-Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics in Heidelberg and professor of physics at Heidelberg University. Early in his career Fechtig became interested in cosmophysics. He is a well-known specialist in studies of micrometeoroids and interplanetary dust by rockets and spacecraft and has shared in the organization and development of laboratory and space experiments on meteoritic, lunar, interplanetary and cometary material. This especially refers to the projects on the Helios, Giotto, Vega, Ulysses and Galileo space missions. (M 18643) _ _.
